Late Antique Snobbery

Another epigram of Palladas (A.P. 10.98):

Πᾶς τις ἀπαίδευτος φρονιμώτατός ἐστι σιωπῶν,
    τὸν λόγον ἐγκρύπτων ὡς πάθος αἰσχρότατον.

Every uneducated man is wisest if he remains silent, hiding his speech like a disgraceful disease.
